What health benefits can an infrared sauna provide?

Weight Loss -- In a single sauna session, you can burn up to 600 calories. That's equivalent to 30 minutes of rowing. Infrared saunas accelerate your heart rate, which in turn burns calories. The infrared penetrates the skin and breaks down fat and water pockets. Some people who are unsuccessful with dieting find success after using an infrared sauna. For people with physical limitations, saunas can be a great exercise alternative. Immune System -- Typically, a sauna session causes a brief and minor body temperature increase. This is similar to the body's natural defenses against bacteria, microbes, and infection. The result is improvement of the immune system by increasing the production of white blood cells. Removing Toxins -- Toxins present in the body block blood circulation and impair cellular energy. When the immune system is inhibited in this way, it becomes difficult for the body to fight disease. When exposed to infrared heat, the large water molecules in our bodies that contain toxic gases vibrate and are broken down. Toxic gases and materials are then released. Infrared heat is also used to treat clogged capillaries, as the heat expands the capillaries and skin pores to expel the toxins. Decreases Joint Stiffness and Pain Relief -- Heat is known to reduce sensations of pain. Heat may also cause increased production of endorphins and the shutting down of the "spinal gate", each of which reduces pain. Success with infrared has been reported by medical researchers in the following types of cases: TMJ Arthritis Acel-dacel Injury Sequelae Tight Shoulders - relaxed Spinal Cord Shock - post traumatic shock treatment Muscle Tension - relaxed Shoulder Pain - relieved or eliminated Bursitis - relieved or eliminated Muscle Spasms - reduced or eliminated Low Back Pain - relieved Compression Fracture - pain eliminated for 3 days with only a single treatment Post-exercise Muscle Pain - IR proven vital to competitive athletes Arthritis: Gouty, Rheumatoid, Traumatic, DJD - each substantially relieved or improved Injuries - radiant heat helps with sprains and strains
